About the role
- Serve as a technical leader for material decisions and define program/product direction
- Drive execution of material strategy across multiple programs
- Serve as subject matter expert to determine and develop required technologies for high temperature applications
- Act as technical lead providing independently determined solutions, high fidelity simulations and models
- Support missile system design, performance assessment, flight test support, trade studies and analysis
- Provide mentorship and shoulder-to-shoulder empirical experience for engineers
- Work independently or lead teams to solve high temperature materials challenges
- Define design verification test requirements and ensure key performance characteristics and environmental effects are quantified
- Manage and coordinate multiple simultaneous tasks within schedule and program constraints
- Produce test documentation, perform data analysis, anomaly resolution, and results documentation
- Present results to internal and external customers
- Integrate high temperature materials into deliverable products and assess system performance
- Support vendors and travel as needed to support programs
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- Minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience (14+ years experience in absence of a degree)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance
- U.S. citizenship required
- DoD Clearance: Secret (ability to obtain/maintain)
- Strong background in high temperature material testing and material manufacturing methods
- Experience in design and development (material selections, manufacturing, and/or suppliers)
- Advanced experience/knowledge in high temperature materials: High temperature metals, composites, coatings, CMC, Carbon/Carbon, SiC ceramics, RF and EOIR apertures, refractory metals, ablative coatings, high temperature alloys
- Environmental barrier and oxidation resistant coatings, component integration and materials modeling
- Heat management and rapid heat transfer techniques
- Related manufacturing technologies, integration, and environmental testing
- High temperature test methods such as arc-jet
- Experience with Root Cause / Corrective Action resolution
- Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense Industry
- Ability to lead and execute project work independently
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to determine root cause and solutions expeditiously
- Highly skilled in troubleshooting, problem solving, and analysis
- Understanding of technology transfer to manufacturing and process release concepts
- Experience working with engineering drawings
- Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
- Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
