About the role
- Manage and monitor the manufacturing-related processes for carbon-carbon fiber brakes for aerospace applications
- Qualify new technology and aircraft programs into production
- Provide hands-on leadership in identification of sources of process/product variation
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve product performance, reduce process variation and product cost
- Work directly with all levels of staff from production floor to senior leadership to ensure production material meets quality standards and on-time delivery goals
- Collaborate with plant and engineering staff to identify chemical or materials engineering tool-related problems
- Design and plan layout of equipment to optimize chemical and materials engineering processes
- Perform laboratory studies of manufacturing steps and test proposed processes in pilot plant operations
- Determine methods for fabricating and joining materials and optimize materials for engineering design
- Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration to ensure specifications are met
- Design, develop and test metallic and non-metallic structures or materials and related fabrication processes
- Research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes
- Determine arrangement of operations such as mixing, crushing, heat transfer, distillation, oxidation, hydrogenation, and polymerization to optimize efficiency
- Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes
- Perform material analyses including failure analysis, life predictions, and define requirement specifications
- Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop materials and processing specifications
- May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
- Ongoing production monitoring and troubleshooting of problems associated with assigned aircraft programs
- Liaison interdepartmentally within Pueblo regarding production issues and between Troy, the other carbon sites, and Pueblo regarding support/information
- Maintain and/or write specs and drawings for all assigned aircraft programs at the AMF level and below
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activities
- Complete other duties as assigned
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access certain necessary systems.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
- Preferred Qualifications: Formal education in Chemical or Material Science Engineering
- 2-5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing engineering environment
- Aerospace Manufacturing experience
- Aircraft program and/or project management experience
- Data mining experience
- Experience in technical writing and management presentations
