Motor Claims Adjuster

Manager

• Manage a team of claims professionals handling large loss/complex commercial property claims across multiple clients
• Manage an inventory of claims including large and complex risks; establish and adjust reserves appropriately
• Implement and maintain best practices for claims handling: intake, investigation, evaluation, settlement, and recovery
• Monitor and analyze claims data to identify trends, patterns, and process improvements
• Serve as a resource for escalated claims and ensure compliance with regulatory, internal, and external contractual SLAs
• Align team with client and customer expectations and maintain high quality standards
• Develop and implement strategies to mitigate fraudulent claims and ensure legal and regulatory compliance
• Execute on performance management: attract, hire, retain, train, and develop staff
• Collaborate with Account Management, Compliance, and Claim Operations to resolve complex claims issues
• Establish and maintain relationships with policyholders, agents, brokers, and legal representatives

Property Claims Manager – Large Loss

• Manage delivery and rideshare-focused commercial auto physical damage claims, including driver and third-party incidents
• Interact directly with delivery & rideshare drivers and affected third parties, ensuring smooth, empathetic, and timely resolution of claims
• Provide prompt, courteous and high-quality customer service to all policyholders and claimants by answering customer calls, filing claims, and resolving customer requests
• Gather necessary information from customers to initiate the claim and explain policy, coverage, and appropriate course of action
• Manage an inventory of claims, establish initial reserves for all potential exposures, and adjust as appropriate throughout the claim
• Coordinate the repair of damaged vehicles and assist with rental reimbursement
• Recognize recovery opportunities in regards to subrogation and salvage, as well as total loss
• Ensure compliance with specific state regulations, policy provisions, and standard operating procedures
• Communicate with involved parties and negotiate appropriate settlements with claimants, insureds, and attorneys within approved payment authority
• Provide input for continuous development of claims guidelines, best practices, and process improvements
• Oversee and direct outside investigative service providers and work closely with the client and client counsel and investigative services to resolve the claim
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to refine claims processes and tools
• Engage in learning opportunities to build knowledge of personal lines claims, court decisions impacting the claims function, current guidelines in claims function, and policy changes and modifications

About the role
As VP of Legal at Reserv, you will be the primary legal advisor to the executive team and oversee all legal matters for the company. You will report to a member of the founding team, the SVP of Strategic Services; as Reserv continues to scale up and the Legal function build out more capabilities, this role has the potential to be elevated to General Counsel, reporting to the CEO.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing legal strategies that align with our business objectives while managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role requires a first principles thinker familiar with startup dynamics and a growth-oriented, commercial-minded approach to risk management and risk posture.

What we need
We need you to do all the things typical to the role:
Transactional law
• Build a lean and scalable process and team to efficiently lead contract negotiations, collaborate cross-functionally to protect Reserv, and do so with a commercial-minded approach
• Full contract lifecycle management for every type of contract and legal document, with the gold standard being minimal work to provide contracts & reports to a virtual data room during Reserv’s eventual exit
Litigation
• Develop and implement litigation prevention strategies and decisive settlement processes for each function with a meaningful surface area of risk
• Commercial-minded risk management focused on compliantly enabling business partners to pursue their objectives
• Foster a growth-oriented risk posture across transactional and litigation matters, avoiding an "absolute risk avoidance" culture.
• Act as a force multiplier to other functions by delivering proactive legal support that enables business objectives and cross-departmental efficiency. Examples include:
• Working with outside counsel on patents & trademarks
• Partnering with Product & Engineering teams as their pursue innovation
• Effective at teaming – able to influence other functional leaders horizontally as well as manage upwards to deploy the SVP, Strategic Services against different objectives to rapidly and effectively achieve your objectives

Requirements
• 6+ years of legal experience, with mix of Big Law associate experience and in-house experience at startups
• Recent experience as the first legal hire at a startup or second legal hire at a startup who helped build out the legal function at a startup
• Prior experience in Big Law in formative early career years
• Experience with insurtechs or fintechs, SaaS businesses, or tech-enabled services is a plus but not necessary
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to a state bar in the United States
• Willingness to travel as needed
