Information Security Specialist

Payroll

• Deliver payroll with precision and accountability: Consistently meet >99% of deadlines for assigned tasks while maintaining an accuracy rate of >99.5%. Implement strategic checks and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and continuously refine processes to meet broader business goals.
• Manage and optimize the ticketing system (Zendesk): Take full ownership of the Zendesk queue with strategic oversight, ensuring tickets are assigned within 24 hours. Identify trends or recurring issues, addressing root causes to prevent future escalations and enhance long-term efficiency.
• Strategically Manage SOPs and internal resources: Take ownership of SOPs, checklists, and internal resources, not only ensuring they are updated but also leading efforts to optimize and improve these documents across teams, aligning them with company goals and best practices.
• Provide cross-team training, mentorship, and knowledge sharing: Proactively offer training and mentorship across teams, including Implementation and PCST, to standardize best practices and elevate operational effectiveness across departments. Take ownership of personal development by actively pursuing learning opportunities and sharing knowledge with the team. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement that drives operational excellence and long-term success.

Payroll Specialist Lead

• Own end-to-end US PEO payroll operations, including on-cycle, off-cycle, and correction payrolls.
• Ensure accurate handling of multi-state payroll, including work-state vs residence-state taxation under a co-employment model.
• Oversee PEO-specific compliance areas, including:
• Federal, state, and local tax withholdings and filings
• SUTA/FUTA and state unemployment complexities
• Workers’ compensation and benefits-related payroll deductions
• Co-employment risk and client responsibility boundaries.
• Act as the final escalation point for high-risk payroll, tax, or compliance issues.
• Lead and develop a team of PEO payroll specialists, providing coaching, feedback, and performance guidance.
• Establish clear expectations around accuracy, timeliness, documentation, and ownership.
• Review payroll outputs, reconciliations, and risk items to ensure operational quality.
• Support onboarding, training, and skill progression for PEO payroll team members.
• Define and maintain PEO payroll operating standards, SOPs, and control frameworks.
• Identify operational gaps, risk patterns, and scalability issues; drive process improvements and automation where possible.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to improve payroll workflows, controls, and client experience.
• Ensure strong documentation, audit readiness, and evidence quality.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering to inform PEO payroll system enhancements and roadmap priorities.
• Collaborate with Tax, Benefits, Legal, and Finance teams to resolve complex PEO issues.
• Provide subject-matter guidance on US PEO feasibility, risk, and scalability.
• Support go-to-market, sales, or implementation teams as an advisor on PEO payroll capabilities and limitations.
• Provide regular updates on operational health, risks, escalations, and performance metrics.
• Own incident management for PEO payroll issues, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and external regulatory requirements.

Manager, Payroll – US PEO

Compliance

• Ensure Remote’s Canadian MSB remains compliant with new guidance and regulation stemming from FINTRAC and Bank of Canada’s RPAA legislation.
• Draft policies relating to customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, screening measures, business-wide risk assessments, customer risk assessments, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, law enforcement engagement, fraud prevention, anti-bribery and corruption, authentication standards, AML/PF training and sanctions compliance meeting the expectations of Canadian regulators.
• Lead the AML/CTF audits for Remote’s Canadian regulated entity, manage relationships with other external advisors for Canada as required.
• Lead AML/CTF audits for Remote's other North America activities, manage relationships with North America external advisors as required.
• Responsible for ongoing maintenance of relevant policies, procedures and control environment to ensure our payments entities remain compliant with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports to regulatory authorities.
• Perform periodic and ad hoc 'second line of defence' controls effectiveness reviews as required; reporting to management on any findings and setting out remediation plans where necessary.
• Developing and enhancing compliance 'management information' or metrics to support on-going monitoring of the Canadian compliance function.
• Keep abreast of regulatory changes and update reporting processes accordingly.

Compliance Officer

• Act as a true subject matter expert for the country
• Manage existing relationships with key stakeholder within Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, Engineers.
• Process full end to end payroll in-house, statutory filing requirements, exceptions, approvals, payments and compliance.
