Support National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of Coast Survey (OCS)
Provide overall support to the Coast Survey Development Laboratory (CSDL) National Bathymetric Source (NBS) team and assist in design, development, and improvements of NBS infrastructure and workflows
Perform analytical tasks independently or as part of a team of analysts
Prepare a variety of reports, assessments, or evaluations
Provide mid-level subject matter expertise in cartographic or hydrographic science and GIS application as it directly relates to bathymetry, under guidance of senior staff
Complete bathymetric source data discovery through coordination with the Marine Chart Division and the Nautical Data Branch
Research and identify Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) hydrographic sources and their associated metadata
Edit geopackages in QGIS with research results including the identified hydrographic sources and their associated metadata
Manage workload to meet variable and often short deadlines and communicate complex scientific information clearly
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, oceanography, Geographic Information Systems, cartography, hydrography, or closely related discipline; or 2 years of college + 2 years of directly related experience; or 4 years of directly related experience
Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of the fields of cartography, hydrographic science and GIS
Expertise with Microsoft Office applications and Google’s collaboration suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Slides)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and succinctly
Excellent organizational skills
Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all work is complete, timely and accurate according to policy guidance and standard operating procedures
Demonstrated ability to self-manage workload and meet variable (but often short) deadlines for multiple concurrent tasks
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and ability to receive constructive feedback and implement appropriate action
Ability to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States upon hire
Successful completion of a federal government background check upon hire
