Develops and applies computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems
Assessing architecture and hardware limitations, plans technical projects in the design and development of CAD software
Defines and selects new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters
Develops routines and utility programs; prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval
May specify materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services
Ensures delivered automation systems adhere to applicable domestic and international standards and to company and manufacturing site’s EHS policies and SOP’s
Provide support and troubleshooting for PLC’s, motion control, vision applications, robotic systems, and PC controlled equipment
Provide technical expertise in manufacturing process activities and establish the most effective, reliable and cost-effective processing methods for manufacturing operations
Provides subject matter expertise to vendor automation related stakeholders and performs test, debugging and troubleshooting activities on mission critical automation systems
Prepare and support SOPs, qualification protocols, gap assessments, risk assessment, Impact Assessment, user requirements, functional and configuration specifications, requirements traceability, validation plans, validation summary reports and change controls
Support PLC Software and Vision system validations
Support vendor evaluation, technical presentations, and cross-functional collaboration to implement automation solutions
Work within Medtronic Diabetes business initiatives and comply with company policies and EHS requirements
Requirements
Requires a Baccalaureate degree (Bachelor Degree in Engineering required)
For degrees earned inside the United States: minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
For certain levels/principal level: may require minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Advanced knowledge of job area combining breadth and depth; may have practical knowledge of project management

Experience with CAD software engineering methods, theories and research techniques
Experience assessing architecture and hardware limitations and planning technical projects
Experience developing routines and utility programs and preparing design specifications
Support and troubleshooting for PLCs, motion control, vision applications, robotic systems, and PC controlled equipment
Technical expertise in manufacturing process activities and establishing processing methods for manufacturing operations
Experience with high volume, synchronized automated equipment (35, 40, 100+ ppm) and high precision assembly desirable
Knowledgeable & experienced in mechanical, electrical/electronic design, programmable logic controls (PLC) – Allen Bradley, pneumatic systems, motor control, vision systems, and instrumentation
PLC programming experience
Experience integrating Automation systems to MES systems for data collection and control
Vision system design and integration for inspecting, locating and positioning
Experience with Robots/Cobots
Exposure or experience with Allen Bradley PLC, Servo motion controls, computer machine vision systems, Robotics, complex pneumatics, electrical wiring, mechanical assemblies and sensor
Applications development using object-oriented languages (C#, VB.Net) and experience with SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, Java and database design desirable
Network design and debug
HMI development and troubleshooting
Experience building new control systems
