About the role
- Manage an inventory of claims to evaluate compensability/liability
- Establish action plans based on case facts, best practices, protocols, regulatory issues and available resources
- Plan and conduct investigations of claims to confirm coverage and to determine liability, compensability and damages
- Assess policy coverage and notify insured of any issues; determine and establish reserve requirements and adjust reserves as necessary
- Refer claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate
- Assess actual damages associated with claims and conduct negotiations, within assigned authority limits, to settle claims
- Interact with claimants, policyholders, appraisers, attorneys, and other third parties throughout the claim’s management process
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Participate in training focused on skills needed to provide exceptional customer service
Requirements
- BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training
- Required to obtain and maintain all applicable licenses
- Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (e.g., AEI, IIA, CPCU)
- Ability to investigate claims, determine liability/compensability, evaluate losses, and negotiate settlements
- May be filled as Claims Specialist II or Senior Claims Specialist I depending on candidate experience
- Required to go into the office twice a month if residing within 50 miles of specified offices
