About the role
- Serve as subject matter expert in advocacy and community engagement for KIPP SoCal schools.
- Support implementation of community schools by providing close support to Community School Managers.
- Oversee a group of schools and manage Community School Managers based on regional caseload; report to the Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement.
- Partner with local organizations to host needed services at schools (e.g., vaccination sites, dental clinics).
- Oversee and project-manage Community Fairs and events, including KIPP is Community Voter Registration Event.
- Engage with local leaders and potential supporters via updates to school board members, city council members, and local officers.
- Collaborate with school leadership and Community School Managers to create ACE Plans based on needs assessments.
- Participate in trainings for family engagement and community organizing and support the Family Ambassador program.
- Coordinate civic engagement initiatives: voter outreach campaigns, voter registration training, and mobilizing families for advocacy events.
- Develop and finalize partnership plans and implement services or programs across KIPP schools; host resource fairs (at least 2 per year).
- Facilitate and support 60+ CSM-led events annually (approximately 3 events per school) that benefit students, families, and the community.
- Track and drive family and community engagement goals (e.g., 90% family agreement on active participation; attend 50+ community events annually).
Requirements
- College degree preferred, but not required.
- Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Experience working in an urban school setting.
- Able to manage others and manage through layers; experience supervising staff (Community School Managers).
- Evidence of designing and completing complex problems and projects.
- Experience mobilizing groups, building partnerships with local organizations, and leveraging resources within a community.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings.
