About the role
- Act as a partner to the business, ensuring Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) requirements are met
- Identify and develop appropriate improvement programmes within the business area
- Champion and implement the SHE strategy in respective business area
- Develop and conduct appropriate second-line assurance programmes within a business area (including suppliers)
- Challenge the business to take ownership of first line assurance
- Understand performance trends and use them to drive improvement actions and business decision-making
- Work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to deliver SHE improvements
- Coach the business to understand their SHE accountabilities and improve performance
- Deliver training as part of delivery of a wider SHE training programme
- Provide technical advice, best practice sharing and support in incident investigation
- Ensure TfL and/or supplier teams are meeting TfL’s SHE requirements
Requirements
- The ability to develop credibility, coach and influence stakeholders (Essential)
- Collaboration skills, including working across organisational boundaries (Desirable)
- Ability to initiate and effect business and behaviour change design (Desirable)
- Ability to work at pace and make things happen (Desirable)
- Ability to prioritise workload, make decisions about SHE compliance in a dynamic environment (Essential)
- Skills in risk management and assurance programmes (Essential)
- Ability to understand performance data and trends and explain the underlying meaning to the business (Essential)
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with a proven ability to write strategic and analytical reports (Desirable)
- Safety, Health & Environment Advisor / Manager level knowledge of relevant legislation and its application across large organisations (Essential)
- Understanding of safety & health culture and drivers for change and improvement in culture across organisations (Desirable)
- Relevant detailed knowledge of the principles and application of SHE management (Essential)
- Understanding of the Mayor's Transport Strategy and TfL's business priorities (Desirable)
- Membership of relevant professional body e.g. IOSH, IEMA, CIBSE (Desirable)
- Related degree or equivalent qualification (Desirable), or demonstrable equivalent experience (Essential)
- Relevant detailed knowledge of the principles and application of SHE management (Desirable)
- Experience of delivering outstanding partnering services in similar organisations (Desirable)
- Experience of dealing with a variety of stakeholders from Senior Leaders through to Sub-Contractors (Essential)
- Experience in operating at a senior level and influencing senior manager discussions around the shape of the business. (Desirable)
- Experience of role-modelling SHE behaviours (Desirable)
- Experience of driving change programmes (Desirable)
- Experience in using performance data to drive decision making (Desirable)
