About the role
- 12-week Operations internship based in a GM Automotive Parts warehouse driving operational efforts of GM’s Customer Care and Aftersales organization
- Supervise a team of union-represented operations employees or a departmental function in a warehouse processing center or distribution center
- Oversee department workforce to ensure accurate and timely parts shipments to customers
- Motivate hourly operations employees through effective communication, training, coaching, development, recognition, and supervision
- Demonstrate expertise of processes and ensure team members perform job responsibilities utilizing standardized methods
- Provide instructions to direct reports and serve as a resource on standardized work, quality standards, processes, company policies and procedures
- Address and resolve issues faced by team members, mitigate conflicts, assign tasks and monitor progress
- Train and rotate team members to ensure no disruption in execution of work
- Identify opportunities for improvement using tools such as layered audits
- Achieve Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost key performance indicators
- Cultivate and enforce a safety culture grounded in workplace safety rules & policies
- Implement GMS and lean principles and model GM cultural behaviors
- Communicate and maintain working relationships with employees, union representatives, and management team
- Evaluate team performance, promote continuous improvement, and administer collective bargaining agreements
- Complete administrative tasks such as timekeeping and maintenance of departmental records/reports
- Propose new initiatives, lead delivery of solutions, and collaborate with senior team members
Requirements

- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, or related degree from an accredited college or university
- Must be graduating between Spring 2027- Spring 2028
- Able to work full time, 40 hours per week
- Must be able to report onsite to TX, MI or WI on a full-time basis
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced operations and shift-centric environment that involves standing, walking, and lifting
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship skills
- Can work independently and with a team
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proven analytical problem-solving ability
- High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed
- Evidence of strong character with honesty, accountability and trust
- Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extracurricular activities and/or service organizations (preferred)
