About the role
- Responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of nuclear fuel products and packaging
- Develop and design fuel bundle technologies and their packaging for application in nuclear reactors
- Collaborate with sourcing, fabrication and quality, fuel experts, and regulatory affairs to assure product performs within licensed and GNF performance expectations
- Lead and develop new fuel products & design modifications to improve existing products
- Serve as the subject matter expert on shipping and packaging of nuclear materials and fuel assemblies
- Support nuclear regulatory review and evaluation and ensure regulatory compliance of all packaging, both domestic and international
- Utilize mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, finite element analysis, statistics and drafting practices for design and justification of nuclear packaging applications
- Address emergent customer and manufacturing issues
- Design test procedures and perform testing to address component and assembly adequacy
- Provide well written, well organized documented engineering analyses to assure design adequacy
- Perform design reviews and production readiness reviews
- Review and disposition product non-conformances
- Develop procedures and work to improve engineering productivity
- Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
- Assist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projects
- Perform work with high quality in accordance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards
- Effectively communicate and collaborate activities with other team members on technical issues
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University
- Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Minimum 5 years of nuclear fuel packaging design, analysis, or licensing experience
- Preferred work location at GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered
- This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; final offers contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government

- Desired: Master’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University
- Desired: Prior nuclear packaging experience
- Desired: Knowledge of Part 71 licensing requirements
- Desired: Experience in 3D CAD design, LS-DYNA and ANSYS
- Desired: Experience with applicable industry standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, BWRVIP)
- Desired: Proven track record of problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation
- Desired: Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
- Desired: A self-starter willing to take initiatives and ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy
- Desired: Strong customer focus and clear understanding of nuclear industries
