About the role
- Technical: hands-on coding expected; this is not a management role
- Own and deliver cross-team and cross-tribal technical initiatives
- Take ownership of architecture for a tribe
- Provide technical guidance; anticipate product-level technical issues and make architectural/design decisions
- Create sweeping improvements in stability, performance and scalability across business-critical systems
- Ensure timely delivery of team projects with tangible business impact
- Lead by example and ensure team follows engineering practices
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data and QA to set clear goals and regularly deliver value
- Facilitate continuous learning and improvement for the team
- Ensure systems meet Fresha quality, reliability and scalability standards
- Anticipate broad technical changes and keep Fresha ahead of the curve
- Make strategic trade-offs and articulate scaling/reliability limits of major architecture areas
- Act as a multiplier by building systems, tools or policies that raise org productivity
- Communicate externally about Fresha in tech communities and lead internal technical direction
Requirements
- Hands-on coding skills expected (this is a heavily technical role, not a management role)
- Consistently delivered large systems involving multiple teams on time at high quality
- Strong problem-solving: break down complex problems quickly into solutions, knowns and unknowns
- Capable of debugging the hairiest problems encountered by the team
- Played a key role in developing multi-year technology strategy across systems and teams
- Created adaptable architectures that enable many potential futures
- Ability to build strong relationships across the business and influence upwards
- Facilitation skills: listen, guide debates, reach consensus and communicate decisions
- Short- to medium-term technical planning (6–12 months) and identification of areas of need
- Mentorship: seen as a role model and mentor to technical team members
- Recognised contributor to core and side projects
- Ability to reduce complexity of projects, services and processes
- Experience shaping broad architecture and shipping large services, complex libraries or infrastructure
- Demonstrable impact on company technical trajectory
- Team-player: willing to roll up sleeves and assist the team
- Self-starter with a proactive approach
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment
