About the role
- Establish immediate contact with Policyholders and claimants.
- Conduct extensive investigations into causes and origins of all major property claims.
- Interview insureds, claimants and others as required.
- Inspect property damage, prepare estimates, evaluate and make recommendations regarding coverage, determine liability and total value of claims and negotiate settlements.
- Set and maintain adequate reserves and exercise independent judgment in evaluating property damage.
- Determine scope of work and obtain agreed scope and cost of repair with contractor and/or Policyholder.
- Use outside experts and attorneys as required; document claim files and submit final report for closure.
- Assign and supervise handling of property losses by independent adjusters when necessary and advise claims adjusters.
- Conduct related training of field office claims personnel and attend industry-related training programs to stay current on legal developments.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local, state and regional organizations and act as coordinator of Catastrophe Team activities at catastrophe sites.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and five years of claims handling experience (up to two years of equivalent may be substituted); or Bachelor’s Degree and three years of claims handling experience, (up to two years of equivalent experience may be substituted.)
- Working knowledge of Windows software required.
- Successful completion of Introduction to Claims (AIC 30) and AIC 35 preferred.
- Appropriate license as required by state.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory.
- Provide 24-hour availability for emergency claims service.
- Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment; climbing/accessing heights; frequent driving; lifting/moving 0-20 lbs and 20-50 lbs; manual keying/data entry; pushing/pulling.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for this role.
- Good time management and organization skills preferred.
- Ability to reside in Evansville or New Albany, IN and/or surrounding areas preferred.
