About the role

  • Supports the Director in developing and implementing strategies to represent Emory University in Washington, D.C. on issues related to federal policy and legislation
  • Monitors legislation and policy developments at the federal level and provides updates to the Director of Federal Affairs and the Vice President of OGCA
  • Cultivates relationships with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and representatives of the Administration and federal agencies
  • Coordinates and plans tours of Emory for external stakeholders and schedules Capitol Hill meetings for Emory advocates
  • Produces research analysis and creates background materials to support the Director of Federal Affairs and ensure coordination across the OGCA team
  • Creates education material for legislators and staffers by working with offices across campus to gather and distill pertinent information
  • Works closely with Emory's associations, attends meetings, identifies issues of interest, and communicates with internal Emory stakeholders regarding association activity
  • Performs related responsibilities as required

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience in a federal affairs or related environment
  • Experience working on Capitol Hill
  • Substantive, first-hand knowledge of Congressional and federal policies
  • Established relationships on Capitol Hill preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to higher education, research and health care
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs
  • This role requires residency in the state of GA
