About the role
- Supports the Director in developing and implementing strategies to represent Emory University in Washington, D.C. on issues related to federal policy and legislation
- Monitors legislation and policy developments at the federal level and provides updates to the Director of Federal Affairs and the Vice President of OGCA
- Cultivates relationships with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and representatives of the Administration and federal agencies
- Coordinates and plans tours of Emory for external stakeholders and schedules Capitol Hill meetings for Emory advocates
- Produces research analysis and creates background materials to support the Director of Federal Affairs and ensure coordination across the OGCA team
- Creates education material for legislators and staffers by working with offices across campus to gather and distill pertinent information
- Works closely with Emory's associations, attends meetings, identifies issues of interest, and communicates with internal Emory stakeholders regarding association activity
- Performs related responsibilities as required
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree
- Three years of experience in a federal affairs or related environment
- Experience working on Capitol Hill
- Substantive, first-hand knowledge of Congressional and federal policies
- Established relationships on Capitol Hill preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to higher education, research and health care
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs
- This role requires residency in the state of GA
