Design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting electric utility clients
Physical design: yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, bills of material
Protection and control design: one-line & three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary & logic diagrams, panel elevations and wiring, supervisory & control drawings, vendor equipment wiring diagrams, cable schedule and bill of materials
Report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager
Attend project site visits to develop scope of work and define project objectives
Prepare engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules
Develop top level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages
Provide guidance to junior engineers and/or designers
Perform calculations for grounding & lightning, and AC/DC load studies
Prepare equipment specifications for procurement of major equipment
Perform quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings
Provide short term field support during construction
Coordinate design activities with other disciplines
Serve as technical advisor for the team
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
8+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm
Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
Experience leading a team of engineers and designers designing substation projects (preferred)
Experience with designing substations (preferred)
