About the role
- Provide legal guidance, interpretation, advice, and recommendations to internal stakeholders and senior/executive management regarding federal/state healthcare regulations
- Prepare communications with state regulators, examiners, and consultants within deadlines
- Conduct legal research and analysis related to state laws, regulations and market conduct findings
- Support legal review, analysis, and outcomes of state mental health parity exams
- Review and assess adverse state findings and consent orders
- Identify and review legal risk for business areas and assess market conduct impact and corrective action plans
- Provide legal expertise on company-wide initiatives and implement new laws and regulations
- Work collaboratively with Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and business operations
- Assist with onboarding junior-level staff to develop departmental capabilities
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
- 2+ years of healthcare law experience
- Admitted to practice in at least one state and in good standing
- Ability to travel up to 5%
- JD required
- In-house Counsel Certification (ICC) preferred
- In depth knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations and industry standards
- Experience working with state and federal government agencies
- Knowledge of healthcare laws e.g., ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, AWP/parity, pharmacy and/or mental health parity
- Experience working with PBMs and/or pharmacy division of a health plan and/or with health plans
- Mastery of problem solving, collaboration, growth mindset, execution and business intelligence skills
