About the role
- Support recruitment, training, and ongoing development of a high-performing retail and culinary team
- Provide coaching and feedback to ensure team members deliver outstanding customer experience
- Assist in development plans to support individual and team growth
- Represent Sur La Table’s brand and create memorable, educational experiences to inspire repeat visits
- Stay current on products and engage in available training
- Lead a customer-focused, Guest Obsessed culture and address customer concerns promptly
- Partner with the General/Store Manager to develop and implement merchandising, marketing, and customer engagement strategies
- Analyze daily performance metrics and apply insights to drive results
- Consistently meet or exceed monthly sales goals measured by KPIs (sales volume, AOV, conversion)
- Assist with daily store operations, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate inventory levels, minimize shrink, and ensure proper product merchandising
- Ensure store safety and cleanliness and address maintenance needs
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of associate records (time and attendance, certifications, personal information)
- Adhere to wage and hour laws and record time worked according to policy
- Model and ensure Sur La Table policies and SOPs are communicated and followed
- Perform physical tasks: retrieve and replenish merchandise, operate ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and operate POS/computer systems
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment
- 1-2 years of retail management experience, preferably in a specialty or culinary retail environment
- Proven track record of achieving sales and motivating high performing sales teams while meeting operational goals
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, develop, and retain a high performing team
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Passion for community engagement and providing exceptional customer experiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail management systems preferred
- Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
- Ability to remain standing for up to 5 hours at a time
- Ability to move about the store coaching and directing associates and retrieving merchandise
- Ability to grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Ability to lift and/or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders to retrieve and/or move merchandise
- Ability to operate a computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners and mouse
- Regular and predictable attendance; flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
