About the role

  • Senior-level leadership role for a candidate who thrives in dynamic, growth-stage organizations.
  • Director of HR will manage one junior HR team member, set strategic direction, and personally handle key operational tasks.
  • Serve as trusted partner to the executive team, ensuring compliance, driving best practices, and cultivating a positive, people-first culture.
  • Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute HR strategies that align with company growth and mission
  • Oversee all aspects of HR operations including recruiting, employee relations, benefits, and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, as well as industry-specific requirements (HIPAA, healthcare/ABA regulations)
  • Partner with leadership to design organizational structure, workforce planning, and performance management processes
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee relations, performance, and retention strategies
  • Build and maintain HR policies, employee handbook, and systems to support scalability
  • Lead culture and engagement initiatives to promote retention and employee satisfaction
  • Manage and mentor a junior HR team member

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated success building or scaling HR functions in a small to mid-sized organization
  • Hands-on experience in compliance, employee relations, and recruiting
  • Strong knowledge of federal and North Carolina employment laws
  • SPHR/PHR certification strongly preferred
  • Experience within the ABA, behavioral health, or healthcare field is highly preferred
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
