Serve as HEOP Counselor providing personalized and group advising to assigned caseload, focusing on academic, personal, crisis, and financial advising
Create and maintain detailed and accurate student records
Support student adjustment to college life, develop skills for academic and personal success, and implement early intervention strategies for academic difficulties
Assist in planning and executing the HEOP Summer Program (4–5 weeks) and be available June–August for preparation/implementation
Participate in weekly staff meetings, one-on-one sessions with the Director for Federal and State Programs, and professional development activities
Represent HEOP at campus-wide events, serve on University committees, and advise/mentor the HEOP Student Board
Collaborate with faculty and campus support services, monitor student progress, and maintain regular communication with students, faculty, tutors, and support staff
Guide students through financial aid processes in coordination with campus offices and connect students with campus resources (mental health services, tutoring, career development)
Design and facilitate workshops on academic, social, career, financial, and cultural topics; lead initiatives that promote academic achievement
Contribute to program assessment, fulfill state reporting requirements, and perform additional duties as assigned
Work standard hours 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday–Friday with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a social science or counseling-related field (master’s degree preferred)
One year of experience in higher education counseling, preferably working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Strong interest in working with college students and ability to connect with a diverse student population; energetic, engaging, and positive personality
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and keen attention to detail
Strong computer skills with ability to quickly learn new software; knowledge of Banner, Argos, Canvas, EAB, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office preferred
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong project management and time management skills
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and availability June–August for HEOP summer program preparations/implementation
