About the role
- Evaluate and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs
- Provide specialized lymphedema care: manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, and personalized exercise programs
- Manage and reduce swelling, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life for patients
- Perform initial and on-going assessments of patient's condition
- Establish, revise and evaluate plans of care involving patients and families
- Perform therapy interventions utilizing standard physical therapy techniques appropriate for age and condition
- Supervise the activities of physical therapy assistants, students and other support personnel
- Build meaningful, trusting relationships with patients and families through ongoing lymphedema care
- Work part-time according to outpatient schedule (days/evenings)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or certificate
- Graduate of a Physical Therapy Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association
- Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Preferred: Experience in lymphedema and/or orthopedics
- Ability to walk and climb stairs without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load
- Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor
- Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program
- Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse
- Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements and to read all patient monitors
- Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families
- Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment
- Part time 20 hours per week (2 full days and 1 half day); shift schedule 8:00am-4:00pm and 10:00am-7:00pm
- Must clear controlled substance and nicotine testing; must clear nicotine test within 90-day new hire period
- Must comply with Cleveland Clinic Health System influenza prevention program (annual vaccination or approved exemption)
