About the role
- Conduct regular patrols of parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits to ensure site safety
- Monitor security cameras and alarm systems; report suspicious activity
- Control access points and ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas
- Respond quickly to emergencies (medical, fire, security) and assist site staff during crises and evacuations
- Greet and assist visitors, patients, and staff; provide directions and enforce site policies
- De-escalate conflicts and resolve tense situations professionally
- Document daily activities, incidents, and accidents; complete incident reports
- Enforce hospital policies including visitor and patient protocols
Requirements
- Eligible to obtain a Security License for Nova Scotia
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR - Level C (CSA-approved vendor)
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, could include days, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to perform physical duties (patrolling, standing, walking, responding to incidents)
- High school diploma / GED
- Current certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) (nice-to-have; training available prior to onboarding)
- Previous experience in security or customer service (asset)
- Experience monitoring surveillance systems (CCTV, alarms)
- Additional language skills (e.g., French) an asset
