About the role
- Provide translation services for individuals with a language barrier across Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services
- Accurately translate lectures, conversations, meetings, medical, and legal content
- Remain HIPAA compliant when interpreting or translating in healthcare settings
- Abide by client policies and the American Translators Association Code of Ethics
- Render complete and accurate translations without altering, omitting, adding, or explaining content
- Be sensitive to cultural differences between source and target languages
- Be on-call and available; translators will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs
- Maintain a professional remote workspace and use computer and office productivity tools
- May work flexible schedules, holidays, and hours outside normal business hours
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent in years of experience
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience
- Certified Translation Professional or translation certifications
- Certifications from a previous agency or accreditation from a translation program
- Must be fluent in English
- Must be fluent in Simple Chinese
- Must be able to pass a background check; may require additional background checks
- Ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality
- Proficiency in written communication
- Wide breadth of knowledge in a variety of topics
- Cultural awareness when conducting translations within different regions
- Problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat)
- Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks
- Self-starter; able to work independently and as part of a team
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Preferred (medical): medical interpreter certificate from CCHI or NCMI
- Preferred: 2 years legal translation experience
- Preferred: 2 years medical translation experience
- Preferred: American Translators Association Certification
- Preferred: Court certified translator certificate
