About the role
- Provide translation services for individuals with language barriers across Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental, Social Services, etc.
- Accurately translate lectures, conversations, meetings, medical and legal content without altering, omitting, or adding information
- Remain HIPAA compliant when interpreting or translating in healthcare settings
- Abide by client policies and the American Translators Association Code of Ethics
- Be sensitive to the culture of the source and target languages during translation
- Be available on-call and respond to potential jobs within 48 hours
- Maintain a productive professional remote workspace and use computer/office productivity tools
- May perform other duties as assigned and report to the Deputy Program Manager
- Work flexible schedules which may include holidays and hours outside normal business hours
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent in years of experience
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience
- Certified Translation Professional
- Translation Certifications or Accreditation from a translation program or previous agency
- Must be fluent in English
- Must be fluent in Cantonese
- Must be able to pass a background check and may require additional background checks
- Ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality
- Proficiency in written communication
- Cultural awareness when conducting translations within different regions
- Problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
- Highly motivated with ability to handle and manage multiple tasks
- Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to be on-call and notified within 48 hours of potential jobs
- Ability to sit for long periods and use a computer with sufficient speed to meet demands
- For medical translation: medical interpreter certificate from CCHI or NCMI (preferred)
- 2 years of legal translation experience (preferred)
- 2 years of medical translation experience (preferred)
- American Translators Association Certification (preferred)
- Court certified translator certificate (preferred)
