About the role

  • Provide translation services for individuals with language barriers across Education, Legal, Medical, Environmental, Social Services, etc.
  • Accurately translate lectures, conversations, meetings, medical and legal content without altering, omitting, or adding information
  • Remain HIPAA compliant when interpreting or translating in healthcare settings
  • Abide by client policies and the American Translators Association Code of Ethics
  • Be sensitive to the culture of the source and target languages during translation
  • Be available on-call and respond to potential jobs within 48 hours
  • Maintain a productive professional remote workspace and use computer/office productivity tools
  • May perform other duties as assigned and report to the Deputy Program Manager
  • Work flexible schedules which may include holidays and hours outside normal business hours

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent in years of experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Certified Translation Professional
  • Translation Certifications or Accreditation from a translation program or previous agency
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be fluent in Cantonese
  • Must be able to pass a background check and may require additional background checks
  • Ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality
  • Proficiency in written communication
  • Cultural awareness when conducting translations within different regions
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
  • Highly motivated with ability to handle and manage multiple tasks
  • Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to be on-call and notified within 48 hours of potential jobs
  • Ability to sit for long periods and use a computer with sufficient speed to meet demands
  • For medical translation: medical interpreter certificate from CCHI or NCMI (preferred)
  • 2 years of legal translation experience (preferred)
  • 2 years of medical translation experience (preferred)
  • American Translators Association Certification (preferred)
  • Court certified translator certificate (preferred)
