About the role
- Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and assist with balance sheet reviews and detailed account analysis.
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including variance analysis and financial integrity checks.
- Assist in preparing FERC financial reports and GAAP financial statements, including footnotes and MD&A.
- Support internal management reporting and respond to auditor data requests.
- Provide analysis and support for regulatory filings and proceedings.
- Develop and cultivate positive business relationships between Accounting and other AEP business partners.
- Proactively assess, develop and enhance processes and procedures on a continuous basis.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business with an Accounting concentration
- 2 years of accounting experience required (Accountant II Only)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements
- CPA or progress towards certification preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft products and familiarity with ERP systems
- Peoplesoft experience a plus
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Continuous improvement mindset with competencies in Adaptability, Flexibility, Creativity and Initiative.
