About the role
- Own and develop the company’s public policy and regulatory strategy across the UK and EU.
- Build and articulate clear policy positions on open banking, open finance, payments and related and emerging areas of interest.
- Monitor, analyse, and influence relevant policy, legislative, and regulatory developments.
- Draft consultation responses, policy briefings, position papers, and stakeholder communications.
- Lead engagement with government departments, regulators, politicians across the UK and EU.
- Represent the company at industry forums, working groups, and external events.
- Advise senior leadership and product teams on regulatory risk, opportunity, and strategic positioning.
- Anticipate emerging policy trends in fintech, including AI, digital identity, and digital assets, and translate them into business impact.
- Coordinate internal input across legal, compliance, product, and commercial teams.
Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, government relations, or financial services policy, with a strong track record of influencing UK and/or EU regulation and being able to translate regulatory requirements into practical business outcomes
- Experience engaging directly with regulators, government bodies, and policymakers.
- Deep understanding of payments, open banking/open finance, and the wider financial services regulatory landscape in the UK and EU. Knowledge of other jurisdictions is a bonus.
- Demonstrable expertise in emerging regulatory areas in the UK/EU, including AI, digital assets and digital identity.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality policy submissions, briefing notes, and advocacy materials.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with confidence engaging at senior level.
- Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and managing evolving priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience of and thrive when navigating in-depth product specifications to provide practical compliance advice to the business.
- Tech-savvy, with a strong interest in how technology enables regulatory compliance and business innovation.
