Participate in and contribute to the mission, vision, and strategic plan of WVU Cancer Institute and Department of Cancer Prevention and Control
Organize and implement efforts related to community outreach and engagement, navigation, and research in cancer control
Establish, maintain and cultivate positive long-term relationships with community partners
Coordinate and implement community cancer prevention and risk reduction education and cancer screening programs
Assist with building capacity for community research and foster bidirectional research between WVUCI and the community
Support assigned multi-county region with frequent travel to Boone, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam, Roane, Wayne, Wirt, and Wood counties
Attend meetings and training at the CPC office on campus at least one day per month; on-campus work station provided for those times
Conduct at least two monthly community focused cancer control activities in the assigned region
Design, develop, and implement community outreach and engagement plans, dissemination of educational materials, outreach/promotions, and communication campaigns
Coordinate and facilitate programmatic meetings: develop agendas, facilitate meetings, record/disseminate meeting minutes and action items, monitor progress on deliverables
Contribute to design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of culturally appropriate, evidence-based programs and services; provide technical assistance in program planning and applied research
Assist with implementation or recruitment of research projects in the community
Document program progress and submit monthly reports, assess strengths/weaknesses, and implement strategies to improve outcomes
Develop and disseminate cancer information resources: handouts, flyers, presentations, communications, videos, photographs, posters, infographics, social media, websites
Assist with applications for additional funding opportunities and provide data for documentation
Develop and deliver presentations on cancer prevention, screening, health literacy, and cultural competency
Serve on local and statewide coalitions and taskforces
Submit or assist with submission of articles, abstracts, and posters to promote programmatic work
Function as a member of CPC staff: participate in team meetings, trainings, conferences, and complete required WVU training and certifications
Collaborate with other CPC staff and programs and assist with other CPC program activities as requested by leadership
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline: public health, health communications, social work, social sciences, nursing, health education, healthcare administration, marketing, or other healthcare professions degree
Master's degree is preferred
A minimum of two (2) years of combined experience in: Coordinating health education programs; Community event planning; Group dynamics, leadership; Program assessment; Data collection; Project management
An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered. All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills
Ability to establish priorities, adhere to deadlines, have high attention to detail and follow through, and ability to maintain confidentiality
Skilled at writing correspondence and preparing reports
Ability to operate the necessary computer, software (Microsoft Office), web-based and other high-tech equipment relative to the program
Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
Ability to work in multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds
Skilled in group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution
Ability to manage health education programs, event planning, group dynamics, leadership, program assessment, evaluation, and practice facilitation
Ability to work as part of a team and with a significant degree of independence
Ability to travel frequently with occasional overnight stays, working outside the traditional work week as needed
Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards
Willingness to seek consultation and supervision as needed
Knowledge of current health issues, health education and behavioral theories, and health information needs of the medically underserved preferred
Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with persons from various cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, including persons of all ages and orientations
Ability to rapidly learn institution, federal, and state statutes and regulations impacting the work
