About the role
- Design and implement safety and security structures for World Relief in moderate to high-risk conflict and fragile contexts
- Support US Programs (20%) and International Programs (80%) across multiple countries
- Oversee compliance with organizational safety and security policies and advise senior management on improvements
- Design, write and update Safety and Security SOPs, tools and templates and support their implementation
- Provide consistent safety and security orientations and conduct trainings; maintain a Security Community of Practice and train trainers in each office
- Provide technical support including operational security, humanitarian access, security analysis, donor security plans and FEMA grant support
- Travel frequently to support local teams during new initiatives, emergency response, program growth and critical incidents
- Support development and maintenance of security plans; advise on staff evacuation and relocation and ensure evacuation plans are in place
- Participate in crisis management response, triage incident reports and interact with law enforcement as appropriate
- Monitor security and political situations; produce analysis of events and quarterly incident trend reports; maintain security document library on SharePoint
- Serve as security lead for new humanitarian responses and new offices; conduct Security Risk Assessments, property and equipment assessments, provide pre-departure briefings and lead security coordination

- Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
- Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, International Relations or Emergency Management; or minimum of 4+ years’ experience in the professional security arena (INGO, Corporate, Military, Law Enforcement or Emergency Services)
- Experience in a high-risk environment programming or role with similar responsibilities
- Willingness to travel frequently to environments that are often difficult, insecure, remote and/or lack basic services
- Sound knowledge of INGO security practices with proven experience in Security Risk Assessments (SRA), security planning and critical security incident/crisis management in the humanitarian context
- Demonstrable capabilities in planning, organizing and executing security operations in humanitarian programming
- Experience developing and facilitating training workshops on safety and security topics
- Proven experience writing policies, protocols and/or manuals
- Highly developed interpersonal and communications skills including influencing, negotiation and mentoring
- A self-starter, able to work well with limited supervision to produce results
- The ability to work effectively in cross-cultural settings with people from diverse backgrounds
- (Preferred) Formal training qualifications (Hostile Environment Awareness Training, Kidnap & Ransom, Personal Security, First Aid, etc.)
- (Preferred) Fluency in French, Swahili and/or Arabic a plus
- (Preferred) Experience with humanitarian access negotiations and strategizing
