Manage day-to-day operational activities of the City of Clewiston wastewater treatment facility and supervise two operators.
Coordinate and communicate with operations, client representatives, contractors, and assigned engineering firms.
Ensure effective system operation, process optimization, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Prepare and manage compliance reporting and interact with regulators as needed.
Staff development, training, and implementation of standard operating procedures.
Implement and manage an innovative asset management program, and administer routine and capital repair and replacement projects.
Emergency response for process upsets, equipment failures, force majeure events, and alarm events.
Maintain safe work practices by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.
Oversee operating and capital budgets and participate in financial oversight decisions.
Utilize predictive maintenance systems and operations databases for process control and optimization.
Participate in recruiting and community engagement activities, and attend city staff and council meetings as appropriate.
Participate in on-call rotation for plant coverage outside normal workday hours; may respond to emergencies and weekend shifts as required.
Requirements
10 to 15 years’ experience in managing wastewater treatment facilities including distributions, collections, and solids handling systems.
Florida Wastewater Operators License.
High school or equivalent, with technical/vocational school background; College degree preferred with focus in Environmental Areas.
Ensure safety is the highest priority and that all SOPs are followed and DOT, OSHA, Healthy and Safety and other requirements are met.
Conduct routine facility inspections.
Interacts with regulators as required and has a proven track record with regulators and solid understanding of regulations and reporting requirements.
Demonstrate a collaborative and team leadership approach to this position.
Demonstrate financial acumen through oversight of operating and capital budgets.
Active participation in recruiting, including partnering/supporting local wastewater/water school programs.
Direct participation in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water/wastewater facilities including the utilization of predictive maintenance systems.
Oversight and utilization of Operations Database for process control, optimization, and regulatory reporting (e.g., HACH WIMS).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Familiar with computers (Excel, Word, HACH WIMS, etc.), including report generation.
Identify and participate in activities to support the local community.
Applicant must possess a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.
Demonstrated ability to partner with local leadership, including attending city staff and council meetings as appropriate.
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, respond to emergency situations, and work in inclement weather as needed.
