About the role

Drive backend engineering efforts within a cross-functional team, collaborating with designers, product managers, other engineers, and the Digital Health team.
Architect, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java, Kafka, Postgres, and AWS technologies ensuring scalability and high availability.
Drive ideation, technical design, and implementation of new features and platforms, transforming complex requirements into reliable, scalable solutions.
Tackle sophisticated scaling issues across multiple systems to ensure platform reliability and performance.
Design platforms that are scalable and reusable, enabling rapid integration and expansion to new geographies and user groups.
Mentor and foster growth of junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Build and maintain features in the Healthcare space to connect members to WHOOP data science algorithms and the wider Healthcare ecosystem.
Work with partners both inside and outside WHOOP to deliver user-centric healthcare solutions.

Significant experience developing large-scale systems.
Demonstrated ability to interface with multiple product domains, particularly backend solutions for dynamic and content-rich home screens.
Deep expertise in backend development, including object-oriented programming, API design, and relational databases (RESTful APIs, Postgres).
Proven experience managing asynchronous processing systems (Kafka, SQS) and developing scalable, reliable solutions.
Experience with Java, Kafka, Postgres, and AWS technologies.
Skilled in writing comprehensive tests and creating clear, maintainable documentation.
Strategic problem-solver with data-driven, agile, iterative development approach.
Proactive, collaborative team player; ability to mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence.
Willingness to relocate and work out of the Boston, MA office.
