About the role
- Drive strategy on complex lawsuits from investigation through trial while advising claims and underwriting teams on coverage, negotiations, and legal developments
- Try cases, mentor staff, and keep litigation on track—ensuring strong results in and out of the courtroom
- Provide superior coverage analysis and help drive the execution of policy forms
- Assist product administration in the drafting, revision, and implementation of policy forms
- Educate claims and underwriting departments on recent legal trends and policy implications
- Assist claims associates with legal questions
- Oversee case investigations and track progress on assigned matters
- Direct and advise claims trial attorneys on case strategy and individual issues
- Conduct in-depth legal research and provide counsel on coverage, negotiation, and evaluation
- Mentor and assist in training legal support staff
- Actively participate in community and civil affairs
Requirements
- 10+ years of insurance-related litigation and trial practice - preferably with a P&C carrier
- Coverage form experience including drafting, revision, and implementation of policy forms
- Law degree (JD) from an accredited law school
- Member of the state bar where practicing
- Completion of Program in General Insurance (preferred)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
