About the role
- Direct and lead post-award financial grants management activities for sponsored projects
- Oversee sponsored financial services operations and lead staff to provide research administration support
- Interpret, explain and apply governmental research regulations and sponsor policies related to financial administration
- Develop, implement and monitor policies, procedures and objectives for financial research administration, including developing training programs
- Direct and support financial management processes: financial transaction review and approvals, financial reporting, billing and letters of credit
- Direct and support account set-up process and monitor metrics to ensure timely, accurate award processing
- Maintain integration with the Research Management System (RMS) and provide support/direction on functionality changes and software upgrades
- Direct and support cash receipt/posting process and accounts receivables; monitor receivable aging and resolve payment issues
- Direct and support annual Uniform Guidance, Financial Statement and other sponsoring agency/internal audits and coordinate resolution/negotiation of audit findings
- Coordinate and support implementation of internal controls and departmental policies/procedures within SPA
- Participate in setting priorities for upgrades and enhancements with financial systems (Workday, RMS, Monday.com, Sunrise and Cognos)
- Interact directly with professionals at funding agencies and within WashU and maintain knowledge of regulatory and policy changes
- Assist with educational classes for the WashU community on research administration topics as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Progressively Responsible Administrator Or Supervisory Functions (7 Years)
- Knowledge of fund accounting and sponsored agreement process (pre- and post-award)
- Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and other agency specific guidelines
- Ability to interpret, communicate and apply regulations to/from external sponsoring agency officials and the University’s research community
- Financial management and research administration experience in a large university
- Thorough knowledge and working experience with the Workday Financial System, primarily the Grants module
- Progressively responsible management experience
- Rapid proficiency of university accounting, HR and research administration systems
- Analytical skills and ability to research and report upon Federal and private agency accounting, compliance and auditing issues
- Ability to streamline/automate transaction processing and recording
- Ability to manage stress in the workplace
- Preferred: M.B.A.
- Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, CPA - Illinois, CPA - Missouri
