About the role
- Own the integrity and timeliness of the Company’s financial reporting and month-end close process
- Review and manage the monthly close process and preparation of financial statements
- Review payroll and ensure accurate recording of labour expenses
- Prepare monthly reporting packages and financial variance analysis
- Support annual budgeting and lead ongoing departmental budget-to-actual reviews
- Draft technical accounting memos to document accounting policies, judgements, and treatments
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial data accuracy across operational and financial systems
- Manage and mentor the Senior Accounting Clerk and oversee daily accounting operations
- Oversee AP & AR processes
- Maintain accurate revenue recognition and client billing records
- Ensure project and retainer fees recorded in project management system align with executed client contracts and reconcile to the accounting system
- Provide financial support related to project and client financial administration
- Provide financial insights that contribute to forecasting, planning, and leadership decision-making
- Support in maintaining financial reporting, performance dashboards, and data used for forecasting and analysis
- Support rolling forecasts, financial planning processes and financial materials for company communications
- Assist with margin analysis, cost tracking, and profitability reporting
- Perform variance analysis and identify trends impacting financial performance
- Ensure strong financial controls, working capital discipline, and regulatory compliance
- Strengthen internal controls and segregation of duties across accounting processes
- Oversee tax preparation and filing processes in coordination with external accountants
- Maintain documentation and support for external tax advisors and regulatory requirements
- Improve financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and scalability
- Document accounting procedures, maintain clear SOPs and identify opportunities to automate accounting workflows
- Ensure clean financial data integrity across accounting systems
Requirements
- CPA designation required (or near completion with relevant experience)
- 3–5+ years progressive accounting experience (small/mid-size public practice or industry, with managerial focus)
- 1+ years of experience supervising or mentoring team members
- Solid understanding of accounting standards and compliance best practices
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, CRMs (e.g. pipedrive) and Forecasting tools (e.g. Forecast)
- Demonstrated ability to oversee month-end close, reconciliations, tax filings, and financial analysis
- Skilled in variance/shortfall analysis, forecasting, and profitability reviews
- Able to create financial models and reports
