About the role
- Assists the Accounting Manager in performing the month-end close which includes preparation of journal entries for inventory usage variances, shipping accruals and variance close-outs
- Review and posting of all inventory related automated journal entries
- Review and approve the journal entries of staff before posting to the general ledger
- Review financial statements for accuracy
- Ensures deadlines are met
- Review variances per divisional financial statements
- Review and present notes for the financial statements
- Reconcile and analyze inventory in-transit and payable accounts
- Prepare any adjusting journal entries
- Reconcile and analyze various general ledger accounts
- Provide support for Divisional Controllers
- Answering questions, resolving issues and serving as a resource for accounting procedures and policies
- Supervise day-to-day activities of staff
- Provides training, direction and support
- Act as liaison between General Accounting and other departments
- Assist the Accounting Manager in preparing for the external financial statement audit
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Tax Manager in preparing for sales and use tax audits
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience required
- 3-5 years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance required
- Supervisory experience in a food manufacturing environment required
- CPA License preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word with knowledge of JDE / Oracle
- Thorough knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
- Working knowledge of external financial statement audits with the ability to exercise good judgment and work ethics to ensure the integrity of all reporting
- Has a good understanding of internal controls and maintains effective controls within the financial reporting process
- Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner and interact with all levels of management
