About the role

  • The Global Commodity Senior Manager leads aspects of the Global Supply Management process for Capital Expenditures (CapEx).
  • This position works to identify and drive productivity throughout the CapEx category.
  • This position networks with Valmont facilities and cross-functional teams (Operations, Engineering, Quality, Project Management), jointly building a strong project funnel to support Valmont production.
  • The role spearheads sourcing activities on existing and future construction products, as well as all production/facility equipment.
  • This position also works to review the existing supply base and will evaluate suppliers from a GME (Grow, Maintain, Exit) perspective.
  • The Global Commodity Senior Manager – CapEx works to improve payment terms with our suppliers and reduce Valmont exposure through robust service/material agreements.
  • The Global Commodity Senior Manager works with divisional manufacturing management teams to identify and initiate sourcing projects that will achieve cost reduction and deliver competitive advantages through the global sourcing process.
  • Working with production control, engineering, quality control and manufacturing to source parts, equipment, and construction services.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for keeping informed of all significant changes to the design and sourcing processes and for coordinating activities with the Global Sourcing team.

Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s Degree with 9+ years of relevant experience or 11+ years of relevant experience
  • Progressive experience in commodity management/supply chain management, operations, and/or engineering
  • Indirect manufacturing, tooling design, product design and application experience
  • Indirect Commodity Management experience with high dollar spend
  • Experience in managing commodities that are directly tied to material indexes
  • Proven track record of supplier development, management, and sustained productivity
  • Strong analytic and negotiating skills
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to develop and recommend material and process alternatives and work collaboratively with Engineering and Project Management teams
  • Project management skills to:
  • o Develop realistic plans, action steps, and timetables for projects and assignments
  • o Consistently meet deadlines
  • o Coordinate work with other groups
  • o Handle multiple demands and competing priorities
  • Be able to develop and execute initiatives
  • Be able to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with Agency certifications (UL, CSA, NSF, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - advanced Excel skills
  • Able to communicate effectively in the English language. Expertise in Chinese, Spanish or other languages is a plus.
  • Previous International sourcing/negotiation experience
  • Greenfield and Brownfield project knowledge
  • Strong understanding of critical spares and maintenance programs
