About the role
- Manage end-to-end expatriate assignment processes, including: salary setting and cost projections, assignment agreements, pension and social security matters, relocation coordination
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant execution of expatriate processes in close collaboration with home and host People Operations, Payroll teams, and external vendors
- Safeguard compliance with international income tax, social security, immigration regulations, and internal policies
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance to business leaders and HR stakeholders on: assignment planning and approvals, tax and immigration implications, policy interpretation and adherence
- Partner with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and People Operations to ensure expatriate assignments support business-critical roles and strategic knowledge transfer
- Monitor global regulatory changes, mobility trends, and best practices, and assess their impact on Valmet’s policies and processes
- Lead and support: policy updates and renewals, process improvements, development initiatives to enhance efficiency, compliance, and competitiveness of the expatriate program
- Identify, evaluate, and manage external vendors, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality of service, and operational efficiency
- Review, update, and optimize existing documentation and processes to align with evolving business and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- 8–10 years of experience in global mobility, ideally within an in-house environment
- Proven experience managing end-to-end expatriate assignment processes
- Strong knowledge of international taxation, social security, immigration, and global mobility compliance frameworks
- A balance of hands-on operational capability and ownership mindset for managing processes and deliverables
- Experience working with and coordinating external vendors, with a focus on quality and cost efficiency
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders
- A proactive, structured, and detail-oriented working style
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to navigate complex situations
- Assertiveness and a people-oriented professional approach
- A degree in International Business, Law, Economics, HR, or a related field
