About the role
- Own and lead end-to-end firmware development cycle for new Oura products, from concept to release
- Define firmware roadmap with senior management and align it with business goals
- Hands-on technical leadership: design, code reviews, and optimization of firmware for next-generation wearable devices
- Drive overall firmware architecture and technology/toolchain decisions
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Product, Science, Electronics, Testing, and Member Experience teams
- Forecast timelines, allocate resources, manage budgets, and identify skill gaps
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of firmware engineers, providing guidance and career development
- Establish and maintain robust firmware testing, automation, validation, and release management processes
Requirements
- 10+ years of embedded development experience
- At least 3+ years leading embedded teams
- Solid foundation in embedded engineering principles for memory- and power-constrained devices
- Expertise in C/C++ and deep understanding of microcontroller architectures
- Experience in wearable or consumer electronics development
- Good understanding of agile development practices and collaboration across locations
- Experience integrating and optimizing sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes, heart rate sensors)
- Demonstrated experience in power optimization for battery-operated devices
- Strong background in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and wireless communication protocols
- Experience mentoring and growing engineering teams
