  • Upstart is the leading AI lending marketplace partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit.
  • Digital-first company; most employees live and work anywhere in the United States; offices in San Mateo, CA; Columbus, OH; and Austin, TX.
  • Staff Data Analyst will work with Capital Markets and Lending Partnership teams to influence capital strategy and work directly with institutional capital providers.
  • Collaborate with Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Product, Engineering, and Finance teams to shape credit metrics, narratives, and financial forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities, evaluate risks, and provide insights to drive impactful decisions within Upstart’s credit platform and investor/lending community.
  • Develop financial models, data pipelines, and automated reporting systems to enable strategic decision-making.
  • Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of excellence in data, credit, and analytics.
  • Travel/on-site cadence: majority remote within the United States; teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days for in-person collaboration.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional growth and proven success in the technology and financial sectors, showcasing a deep understanding of industry dynamics and innovation.
  • Strong background in credit analytics, valuation, and quantitative financial model development
  • Hands-on proficiency with advanced SQL techniques and experience with Python or R.
  • Expertise in working with large datasets, data modeling, and building robust data pipelines, utilizing tools like Databricks, DBT, Looker, Snowflake, and Redshift to deliver actionable insights.
  • Degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Data Science, or other quantitative fields.
  • Exceptional track record of building strong partnerships with cross-functional teams, particularly in Finance, Product, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning, to align on strategy and drive impactful outcomes.
  • Skilled at translating complex business and performance insights into compelling, executive-ready narratives, using data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker to influence and drive strategic decisions at the C-suite level.
  • Extensive experience in consumer lending strategy, with a strong background in consumer credit capital markets, private credit, or structured products, enabling informed decision-making and innovative approaches to credit strategy.
