About the role
- Performs secretarial duties, utilizing knowledge of medical terminology, hospital, and therapy procedures.
- Completes necessary communication for patient processing, including answering multi-line telephone system, scheduling patient appointments.
- Completes registration of all new patients, including identifying and completing demographic and insurance verification.
- Ensures authorization for insurance is obtained prior to patient’s initial visit, and continued authorization for additional treatment sessions.
- Schedules patient evaluation appointments and subsequent treatment sessions.
- Manages outpatient scheduling for clinicians daily.
- Prepares patient medical record prior to initial visit, and assists with ongoing medical record management.
- Performs daily billing.
- Compiles departmental statistics daily and reports to Administrative Secretary on a monthly basis.
- Tracks and assists with documentation and claims processing for Medicare and Workers’ Compensation claims to ensure reimbursement of rehab services.
- Assists HIM in processing medical record requests and ensures authorization to release patient information.
- Collects and processes co-payments from patients when applicable.
- Types monthly departmental staff meeting minutes and distributes to appropriate staff.
- Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; knowledge of general office procedures and strong computer skills.
- Experience as a medical receptionist; knowledge of insurance applicable to outpatient medical care.
- Basic knowledge of principles and procedures for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and cardiac rehabilitation.
