About the role

  • Performs secretarial duties, utilizing knowledge of medical terminology, hospital, and therapy procedures.
  • Completes necessary communication for patient processing, including answering multi-line telephone system, scheduling patient appointments.
  • Completes registration of all new patients, including identifying and completing demographic and insurance verification.
  • Ensures authorization for insurance is obtained prior to patient’s initial visit, and continued authorization for additional treatment sessions.
  • Schedules patient evaluation appointments and subsequent treatment sessions.
  • Manages outpatient scheduling for clinicians daily.
  • Prepares patient medical record prior to initial visit, and assists with ongoing medical record management.
  • Performs daily billing.
  • Compiles departmental statistics daily and reports to Administrative Secretary on a monthly basis.
  • Tracks and assists with documentation and claims processing for Medicare and Workers’ Compensation claims to ensure reimbursement of rehab services.
  • Assists HIM in processing medical record requests and ensures authorization to release patient information.
  • Collects and processes co-payments from patients when applicable.
  • Types monthly departmental staff meeting minutes and distributes to appropriate staff.
  • Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; knowledge of general office procedures and strong computer skills.
  • Experience as a medical receptionist; knowledge of insurance applicable to outpatient medical care.
  • Basic knowledge of principles and procedures for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and cardiac rehabilitation.
