About the role
- Lead end-to-end audit engagements for not-for-profit organisations, charities, and academies, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and mentor a team of auditors and senior staff, providing guidance, performance feedback and professional development opportunities.
- Develop and implement audit strategies tailored to the unique financial and operational structures of not-for-profit entities.
- Conduct risk assessments, evaluate internal controls, and design appropriate audit procedures to ensure high-quality audit evidence.
- Prepare and review financial statements, audit reports, and management letters, ensuring clarity, accuracy and compliance.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and proactively addressing concerns or issues.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to identify service improvements, operational efficiencies and new business development opportunities.
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards, legislation and industry best practices, particularly in the not-for-profit and education sectors.
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives, including quality control reviews, technical training and policy development.
Requirements
- Professional audit experience, with significant exposure to not-for-profit organisations, charities and academies.
- Proven track record in managing complex audit engagements and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and relevant audit standards (ISA).
- Demonstrated people management and leadership skills, with experience in coaching, performance management and team development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and non-financial audiences.
- Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, or equivalent, with active membership and continuing professional development.
- Experience working with public sector bodies, grant-funded projects and compliance with funding regulations (e.g., DfE, Charity Commission).
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to audit quality and ethical standards.
- Willingness to travel as required, with flexibility to manage multiple engagements across regions.
