Accountant

• Support the Finance Department by working closely with the Controller, the Director of Finance, and the CFO & Director of Administration.
• Enter vendor bills in the accounting system for payment.
• Process accounts payable, including verifying manager approvals and organizing supporting documents.
• Create check payments, post, file backup documentation, and mail check disbursements.
• Monitor online banking processes, including positive pay.
• Prepare Accounts Receivable vouchers and general ledger journal entries.
• Review customer discrepancies and past-due amounts; follow up on delinquent accounts as requested.
• Prepare deposits for the bank, reconcile them, and enter them into the accounting system.
• Review credit card activity, reconcile, and enter in the accounting system.
• Assist with grant financial reporting and staff timesheet compilation.
• Collect W-9s and 1099 reporting.
• Maintain accounting schedules including fixed assets, prepaid schedules, payroll liabilities, and deferred revenue.
• Create and record month-end accrual journal entries, including depreciation and prepaid assets.
• Assist with funder reviews and annual audit preparations.
• Solicit and record in-kind donations for frontline and office needs.

Staff Accountant

• Supports the Family Law Unit by coordinating assignments of Family Court, divorce cases, or other cases to staff attorneys.
• Ensures assignments are made accurately and efficiently in accordance with grant funding requirements.
• Acts as a liaison between the Family Law Unit, Grants Team, and Finance Team to maintain balanced caseloads and monitor attorney allocations.
• Assists the Family Law Director and Family Law Supervising Attorney with assignment of Family Court matters.
• Reviews and assigns incoming referrals from Family Court and other referral sources.
• Utilizes LegalServer to generate reports, review attorney caseloads, and identify cases ready for assignment.
• Monitors and balances attorney caseloads to promote equitable distribution of work.
• Maintains knowledge of grant-funded programs and ensures cases are assigned under appropriate funding sources.

• Receives, screens, and triages intake calls from prospective clients regarding education law matters.
• Conducts conflict checks, gathers relevant case information, and completes financial eligibility assessments.
• Prepares intake applications and supporting documentation for review by attorneys and advocates.
• Opens, maintains, and monitors client files in accordance with agency procedures and case management requirements.
• Schedules client appointments, school meetings, hearings, and other case-related events.
• Explains documents to clients, obtains required signatures, and ensures proper completion of forms and records.
• Maintains regular communication with clients, attorneys, schools, and community agencies regarding case-related matters.
• Drafts correspondence, records detailed case notes, and enters information accurately into the case management system.
• Assists attorneys and advocates with preparation for school meetings, hearings, appeals, and other legal proceedings.
• Compiles program statistics, prepares reports, and supports data collection and program evaluation activities.
• Collaborates with internal programs and community agencies to connect clients with supportive services and resources.
