Handle a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases with appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in San Francisco, Oakland, and Santa Rosa.
Analyze complex legal and factual issues and conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research.
Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
Partner with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for Hartford insureds.
Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions.
Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
Participate in Team Huddles and claims file reviews.
Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.
Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain professional expertise.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases (Staff Attorney).
Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases (Sr Staff Attorney).
JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
Trial experience is preferred.
Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
