About the role
- Work primarily on DRP’s veterans’ docket, focusing on disability rights, civil liberties, and veterans’ rights
- Assist with litigation and advocacy related to servicemembers and veterans
- Conduct legal research and draft legal writing such as memos and portions of court submissions
- Perform factual investigation to support cases
- Support preparation for and participation in court-related activities (depositions, oral argument, hearings, trial)
- Participate in advocacy and internal meetings and discussions
- Support DRP litigation work and integrated advocacy across priority areas
Requirements
- Must be currently matriculated legal students enrolled at U.S. law schools
- Must have completed at least one year of law school before internship commences
- Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
- Lawfully authorized to work to receive stipend
- Full time (35 hour/week) availability for 10 consecutive weeks (start date May 26 or June 8)
- Excellent research skills, including conducting internet and legal database research
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing
- Attention to detail, excellent organizing and time-management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Initiative to see projects through to completion
- Stipend amount $24/hour (stipends are taxed)
