About the role

  • Provide strategic and operational support to Church humanitarian efforts in the designated Area and according to the 5-Year Area Humanitarian Plan and the Church’s Global Priorities, as applicable.
  • Collaborate with internal temporal affairs divisions, external NGOs, and government and community officials from all countries/regions in the Area to facilitate the project life cycle, procurement of resources, and accountability through evaluation and monitoring.
  • Provide technical analysis for key humanitarian initiatives and programs and lead staff in applicable budgeting, project management, communications, regulatory compliance, and business logistics.
  • Prepare Area humanitarian reporting and evaluation for Area Leadership and ensure Area staff and volunteers receive humanitarian and best practice training.
  • Direct the application of emerging technologies, including utilization of global project management and communication systems, to support humanitarian work.
  • Manage and direct other humanitarian specialists and volunteers.
  • As applicable, coordinate member-focused humanitarian efforts in an Area
  • As applicable, represent a specific sector of humanitarian expertise to a global audience within Welfare and Self-Reliance Services.
  • Support project planning, cultivating partnerships, and technical expertise in conceptualizing and producing digital or written materials for Church-wide distribution and within the Welfare and Self-Reliance Department.
  • Facilitate training and consulting with employees and volunteers (as invited by Area leadership) and identify external resources supporting Church-wide and Area-specific efforts. Percentages may vary based on Area need:
  • 50% - Manage the humanitarian project life cycle for Area-wide efforts and lead the implementation of the 5-Year Area Humanitarian Plan and applicable Global Priorities.
  • 20% - Identify and maintain relationships with internal Church divisions, external NGOs, organizations, and government officials to accomplish the 5-Year Area Humanitarian Plan.
  • 15% - Report, evaluate, and analyze Area humanitarian initiatives, programs, and activities to Area/HQ leadership.
  • 10% - Manage humanitarian staff and provide ongoing training to Area employees and volunteers.
  • 5% - Direct the application of technology, communications, and systems and other work as applicable.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of professional and operational experience, including 4 years of direct management experience with demonstrable success working with upper-level management and managing and balancing large budgets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, business, project management, social development, or related degree or equivalent work experience. Masters Degree Preferred
  • Strong understanding of the principles and guidelines of Welfare and Self-Reliance Services and humanitarian standards and the ability to apply them to the 5 Year Humanitarian Plan and address and resolve complicated humanitarian challenges.
  • Intuitive ability to establish relationships of trust with senior Church, organization, and community leaders and represent Welfare & Self-Reliance Services with professionalism and integrity.
  • Excellent problem-solving, listening, change management, and negotiation skills, including strong written and verbal communication skills, and English language proficiency.
  • Ability to learn systems and processes quickly and be proficient using personal computers to utilize databases, spreadsheets, word processing, internet, text, and e-mail communications.
  • Demonstrated experience training employees, volunteers, and other staff on-site and in remote areas, individually or in groups.
  • Church leadership and administration experience and a deep understanding of the influence of cultures and practices in the Area.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and travel up to 40% of the time.
  • Self-management providing direct instruction regarding useful strategies.
