About the role
- Lead the development and ongoing refinement of the Academy’s international strategic direction, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and domestic priorities.
- Provide authoritative analysis on international policy, scientific, funding and geopolitical trends to inform strategic choices.
- Ensure global perspectives are embedded in the Academy’s strategy, business planning and horizon scanning processes.
- Build and steward influential strategic relationships across international science, health, research and innovation systems.
- Identify opportunities for international collaboration, joint initiatives and global policy influence.
- Represent the Academy internationally, acting as a credible senior ambassador.
- Lead international horizon scanning work, synthesising implications for the Academy’s strategy, programmes and governance.
- Develop structured insights and scenarios to support strategic decision‑making by the Executive and Council.
- Work closely with policy, careers and programmes, communications, and Directorate teams to ensure international work is coherent and strategically focused.
- Provide authoritative advice to senior leaders on international opportunities, risks and system shifts.
Requirements
- · Significant experience in international strategy, policy, or global research/health ecosystems.
- · Strong analytical and geopolitical insight, with the ability to translate complex global developments into strategic action.
- · Proven ability to build and manage effective international partnerships and operate credibly in international settings and internal teams, being collaborative and inclusive, with a facilitative working style
- · Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- · Strong project management skills, with experience using recognised methodologies and tools
- · Significant experience delivering complex international projects or programmes in a strategic, policy, academic, or charity context
- · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including reporting to senior audiences
- · Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines
- · Strong attention to detail, balanced with strategic perspective
- · Experience supporting or shaping organisational strategy.
