About the role
- Lead the design and engineering of multiple water and wastewater projects, acting as Engineer-of-Record for projects and/or components.
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer electrical systems and products for projects in accordance with codes and standards.
- Conduct field investigations and assess as-built conditions.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and internal teams; lead project coordination meetings.
- Prepare design calculations, construction packages (drawings and specifications), and revise documentation through design and construction phases.
- Utilize technologies and develop three dimensional models of electrical systems.
- Estimate construction costs, participate in value analysis, and develop/manage project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Lead preparation and coordination of project specifications and participate in constructability reviews.
- Conduct quality assurance/quality control and review deliverables from peers and subordinates.
- Oversee construction phase services: respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and review construction for general conformance with design.
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship for junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Assist in business development activities and preparing proposals for smaller projects.
Requirements
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of industry standards as well as electrical and building codes.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards, particularly in the water/wastewater industry.
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Very strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation, interpersonal and interview skills.
- Well-versed understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoDesk products (i.e. AutoCAD) and/or Bentley products (i.e. Microstation). Familiarity with Revit is an asset.
- Experience with specialized power system software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, and/or EasyPower is an asset.
- Mentoring and professional development of other personnel.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience.
