About the role
- Conduct background research and develop contextual analysis
- Perform historic architectural field work and document findings
- Assist with recommendations of National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility
- Assist with report preparation and deliverables
- Coordinate with the team to ensure quality of data, field work, and documentation efforts
- Conduct regional field work on a regular basis, with overnights expected
- Complete physically demanding tasks in urban and rural settings and/or hot and dry climates, including walking, hiking, and field navigation
- Work in close coordination and under the supervision of senior-level staff
- Hybrid position with regular travel to project sites
Requirements
- Experience/knowledge working with Section 106 of National Historic Preservation Act
- Experience/knowledge of the National Register of Historic Places and the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
- Strong writing and research skills
- Fluency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
- Working knowledge of mapping and ARCGIS-related programs preferred; must be able to read a map and utilize map application on a tablet or cell phone
- Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, Public History, History, or closely related field
- One to five years of professional experience preferred
- Ability to complete physically demanding tasks in urban and rural settings, including walking, hiking, and field navigation
- Willingness to conduct regional field work with regular travel and occasional overnight stays
- Must reside in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota
- Selected candidates will be required to pass a drug screen, motor vehicle record check, and background check
