About the role

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and orientation to ensure a positive start for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Prepare written offers of employment for selected candidates per approved terms and conditions.
  • Facilitate new hire orientations and ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to staff and leadership on HR policies, procedures, and collective agreement and legislative interpretation while ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Human Resource policies, programs, and procedures in alignment with our values, compliance with relevant regulations, and achievement of organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate training programs to support compliance, leadership development, and skill-building.
  • Support succession planning and career development initiatives across all areas of the agency.
  • Assist with and conducts workplace investigations, including scheduling the meetings, participating in the investigation meetings and preparing briefing notes, makes recommendations aligned with organizational policies and legislative framework.
  • Act as a coach to managers on labour relations, performance management, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness.
  • As a member of the Employee Engagement Committee, plan and support staff engagement activities (Town Halls, Annual Staff Event, etc.,) and events.
  • Collaborate with and support DEI committee to implement inclusive practices and initiatives including the DEI trainings across the organization and support in advancing initiatives that promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization.
  • Collaborate with union representatives to support constructive/ positive labour relations and address grievances.
  • Promote open communication, trust, and collaboration between employees and leadership
  • Promote employee morale and engagement
  • Assists with P&C technology projects as it relates to process improvement and strategic design.
  • Provide input and support to the P&C Director in the general operations of the P&C department.
  • Perform other duties that may be required or assigned from time to time, as assigned by Director, People and Culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations or a related field.
  • CHRL designation or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant professional HR work experience within Human Resources department with at least two (2) years as a generalist.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Full understanding and demonstrated working knowledge of relevant Employee and Labour Legislation including Employment Standards, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code
  • Experience working in non-profit
  • Proven proficiency in human resources applications.
