Originate high quality mortgage loans on 1-4 family properties for low to moderate income (LMI) and minority borrowers in partnership with supported external non-profit organizations
Ensure housing non-profit partners in each geographic market are aware of mortgage loan products and services offered by the bank
Increase mortgage loan volume focusing on CRA, LMI, and minority customers through consultative selling
Identify, recruit, hire, train, and develop community development lenders in assigned territory
Provide leadership, coaching, counsel, and accountability to assigned team
Act as a bank representative at community meetings/events and provide training seminars on loan procedures and products
Work with non-profit partners to provide home buyer education, mortgage credit counseling and technical assistance
Identify community groups and establish outreach plans
Serve on housing/credit/finance related boards, charitable/civic organizations or MBA committees
Provide input for program design and participate in credit related consumer training
Conduct outreach training classes in financial literacy, mortgage, banking, home ownership
Maintain extensive knowledge of Southern Bancorp’s product offerings
Identify potential loan applicants through referrals and make sales calls
Assist borrowers with application process and documentation
Understand grant/subsidy programs to ensure borrowers receive maximum funding
Prepare loan pipeline status reports for non-profit partners
Interview and counsel loan applicants and analyze financial status and credit
Make sales calls to housing non-profits to maintain referrals and report weekly loan volumes to management
Understand partnership complexities to mitigate reputational risk
Work on special projects as assigned by mortgage leadership team
Requirements
High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
Five years’ experience in community development lending or minority mortgage lending with a focus on bridging the homeownership gap of underserved communities
Minimum 1 year of experience in the mortgage industry in a leadership role
Must have experience with broad program & mortgage investor guidelines
Housing counseling, financial planning and mortgage credit counseling experience
Comprehensive understanding of: Home Loan Disclosure Act; Real Estate Settlement Procedures; Reg. Z Federal Truth in Lending; Fair Housing; HUD regulations; Client/FHLMC Requirements; Equal Credit Opportunity Act
Ability to travel within market and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
Good listener and self-starter with demonstrated ability to work with minimal hands-on direction
Excellent interpersonal skills to represent the Southern in a positive way
Fluency in a second language preferred but not required
