About the role

  • Lead a team of specialized engineers focused on solving Snowflake’s most complex customer challenges in performance, scale, and cost efficiency.
  • Build, coach, and grow a high-performing team of senior performance engineers and architects; set operational rhythms and KPIs to measure runtime improvements, cost savings, and asset adoption.
  • Diagnose complex workloads (query plans, clustering, concurrency, warehouse sizing) and deliver measurable performance and cost improvements.
  • Establish FinOps guardrails and workload patterns that optimize efficiency and align to customer SLAs.
  • Create prescriptive guidance for DML, table design, semi-structured data, and workload orchestration; turn advanced patterns into repeatable assets.
  • Define and govern best practices for SQL/JavaScript UDFs, UDTFs, and procedures to maximize performance and extensibility.
  • Build and scale demos, reference apps, videos, and AI agentic experiences; package showcases for field reuse and customer workshops.
  • Lead performance and cost workshops, bootcamps, and design-thinking sessions with customers and partners; publish reference architectures, playbooks, and checklists.
  • Represent the Voice of the Field to Product and Engineering; prioritize features that impact performance and cost and validate capabilities with benchmarks and real-world case studies.

Requirements

  • Experience: 8+ years in data platforms/performance engineering or field engineering; 3+ years directly leading senior ICs (hiring, coaching, performance).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in data and AI platforms, cloud computing, and cloud security, including a deep understanding of cloud security frameworks, performance optimization, and cloud cost management.
  • Deep expertise in: SQL/DML optimization, workload orchestration, concurrency management, warehouse sizing/queues, table design & clustering, semi-structured data (JSON/VARIANT), materialized views, and query plan analysis.
  • Proven cloud cost optimization track record (rightsizing, scaling policies, storage/compute tradeoffs, scheduler hygiene, governance and alerts) aligned with well-architected cost pillars.
  • Hands-on with UDF/UDTF/Stored Procedure design and performance considerations (JavaScript & SQL), including predicate pushdown strategies and serialization/mutex patterns.
  • Ability to turn hard problems into repeatable assets: runbooks, checklists, scripts, notebooks, and field-ready showcases (demos, AI agents, videos).
  • Executive communication skills: whiteboarding with engineers one hour, C-suite value narrative the next.
  • Nice to have: external cloud architect certifications or equivalent expertisex` including SnowPro Cert and experience with Database performance tuning.
  • Leadership and Communication: Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a highly technical team while also engaging with senior leadership.
  • Educational Background: A university degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Snowflake experience is strongly preferred.
  • Work authorization/sponsorship: Application asks whether candidate will require sponsorship and to confirm current authorization to work in the country of application.
  • In-office attendance: Application form states in office attendance is an essential function and asks if candidate resides within commuting distance or is open to relocation.
