About the role
- Maintain, support, and improve SMUD's enterprise GIS platform, including ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro
- Provide technical support for the enterprise GIS platform and assist with system administration tasks such as user management, service publishing, and performance monitoring
- Support integration of GIS with other enterprise systems (work management, asset management, customer service tools)
- Perform data updates, quality checks, and process automation to maintain accurate spatial data
- Troubleshoot issues reported by business users and coordinate resolutions with the GIS team
- Contribute to documentation, workflows, standard operating procedures, testing, upgrades, and deployment of GIS applications and services
- Gain hands-on experience with Esri technologies, enterprise databases, and cloud-based environments while learning best practices in security, performance, and system reliability
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least three (3+) years of progressively responsible relevant work supporting departments/business units utilizing enterprise technology solutions
- Knowledge of enterprise application systems design, configuration, implementation strategies, and the system development lifecycle
- Concepts of data modeling, structured query language (SQL), scripting, report design, data maintenance, and database administration functions
- Techniques and practices for resolving moderately complex technical issues and troubleshooting user/system problems
- Ability to assess business processes, develop detailed specifications, define system integration points, and develop testing criteria
- Skills in performing ad-hoc reporting, making script changes to reports and forms, and compiling technical/analytical reports
- Experience providing technical support, user training, and acting as a functional lead on projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams
- Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in GIS/Geography/Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent hands-on experience
- Desirable: Understanding of core GIS concepts, familiarity with Esri software (ArcGIS Pro/Online/Enterprise), basic SQL knowledge, Python scripting for GIS, exposure to enterprise IT environments, and knowledge of utility/infrastructure data models
